Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif met in Bishkek on 31 August to discuss further development of bilateral cooperation and accelerating the implementation of joint projects, the Uzbek presidential press service said.
At the beginning of the talks, Mirziyoyev congratulated Pakistan on its upcoming chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
The sides noted that Mirziyoyev’s visit to Islamabad in February this year and the high-level talks held during the visit had given new impetus to relations between the two countries.
The leaders discussed expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation, as well as developing transport and logistics links.
Particular attention was paid to interregional cooperation and humanitarian ties. Uzbekistan is preparing to host a Forum of Regions in Khiva this year. Pakistan also plans to hold Days of Uzbek Culture and Cinema.
Following the talks, the sides agreed to adopt a joint “road map” aimed at accelerating the implementation of projects in the textile industry, medicine, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and other priority areas.
