Uzbekistan has 601,300 active enterprises and organizations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The number of active enterprises and organizations in Uzbekistan reached 601,300 as of 1 August 2026, including 440,900 small enterprises and microfirms, which accounted for 73.3% of the total, excluding farms and dehkan farms, according to the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The number of active enterprises and organizations increased from 587,500 on the same date in 2022 to 601,300 in 2026, although the trend was uneven. The figure fell to 490,900 in 2023 before rising to 553,100 in 2024, 556,000 in 2025 and 601,300 in 2026. The year-on-year growth rate in 2026 was 108.1%.

Of the total, 445,697 were business entities, including 440,949 small business entities, while 91,525 were farms and dehkan farms.

Tashkent city accounted for the largest share of active enterprises and organizations, at 19.1% of the total, followed by Tashkent region with 9.5%, Samarkand region with 9.2%, Ferghana region with 8.4% and Kashkadarya region with 7.7%. In absolute terms, Tashkent city had 114,839 enterprises, followed by Tashkent region with 57,004 and Samarkand region with 55,449. The smallest number was recorded in Syrdarya region, with 17,108.

By economic activity, trade accounted for the largest share of enterprises as of 1 August 2026, at 27.4%, or 164,481 enterprises. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries ranked second with 21.9%, or 131,925 enterprises, while industry ranked third with 10.6%, or 63,861 enterprises.

Together, these three activities accounted for more than 59.9% of all enterprises and organizations. Construction accounted for 5.5%, or 33,163 enterprises; accommodation and food services for 5.6%, or 33,966; transportation and storage for 3.1%, or 18,894; healthcare and social services for 2.6%, or 15,341; information and communications for 2.3%, or 13,705; and other activities for 20.9%, or 125,940.

Among the organizational and legal forms of business entities, limited liability companies dominated. As of 1 August 2026, they accounted for 356,812, or 80.1%, of the 445,700 active commercial enterprises. Private enterprises numbered 47,241, or 10.6%; family enterprises 37,345, or 8.4%; joint-stock companies 646, or 0.1%; and other forms 3,653, or 0.8%.

The number of active enterprises with foreign investment reached 20,973 as of 1 August 2026. Of these, 4,685 were joint ventures and 16,288 were companies with 100% foreign capital.

Their total number increased 1.7 times over the past five years, while the share of companies with exclusively foreign capital rose from 56.0% to 77.7%.

Compared with the same period in 2025, the number of enterprises with foreign investment increased by 4,364, or 26.3%. The largest increases were recorded in trade, where the number rose from 5,960 to 7,450 enterprises; industry, from 3,449 to 4,098; and construction, from 1,248 to 1,732.

Tashkent city accounted for the largest share of enterprises with foreign capital, at 62.5%, or 13,114 enterprises. It was followed by Tashkent region with 13.8%, or 2,901; Samarkand region with 3.6%, or 754; and Ferghana region with 3.1%, or 659.

By economic activity, trade led among enterprises with foreign investment, with 7,450 companies, followed by industry with 4,098, information and communications with 1,764, and construction with 1,732.

China ranked first among investor countries by the number of active enterprises with foreign capital, with 6,241 companies, or 29.8% of the total. Russia followed with 3,512 enterprises, or 16.7%; Türkiye with 2,327, or 11.1%; Kazakhstan with 1,321, or 6.3%; South Korea with 730, or 3.5%; and Afghanistan with 706, or 3.4%.

The list also included Azerbaijan with 492 enterprises, Tajikistan with 467, the United Arab Emirates with 453, India with 439, Kyrgyzstan with 376, Pakistan with 361, the United States with 368, Turkmenistan with 322, Belarus with 262, the United Kingdom with 258, Iran with 255, Germany with 248, Ukraine with 223 and Japan with 143.

According to the committee’s methodological explanations, information on enterprises and organizations is compiled from the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organizations in accordance with Resolution No. 539 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 28 September 2022.
