Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, who arrived in the country on an official visit, on 2 October.
During the meeting, the sides discussed further development of relations between Uzbekistan and Denmark, focusing on political engagement, trade and economic ties, as well as cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres.
The sides noted a significant expansion of bilateral contacts in recent years. In 2025, Uzbekistan appointed its first ambassador to Denmark, based in Stockholm, while Denmark appointed a special representative for Central Asia in 2026.
Economic cooperation has also been growing. Over the past several years, the volume of mutual trade has increased nearly fivefold. With the participation of leading Danish companies, projects are being implemented in Uzbekistan in mining, the chemical industry, food production, agriculture, water supply and other sectors.
The talks highlighted the need to further increase trade and expand investment cooperation. In particular, the sides noted the prospects for attracting Danish investment, modern technologies and know-how to the energy sector, pharmaceuticals, transport and logistics, the agro-industrial sector and other areas.
Particular attention was paid to humanitarian cooperation. The sides said there was scope for expanding cooperation in education, culture and tourism.
Mirziyoyev and Rasmussen also exchanged views on current issues on the international and regional agenda.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue work on strengthening the institutional and legal framework needed to systematically expand Uzbek-Danish cooperation.
