Uzbekistan begins construction of electric bus plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A US$170 million electric bus plant is being developed in Yazyavan district of Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region in cooperation with Chinese companies Xiang Yang Tenglong Automobile and GIG Investments, the regional administration said.

The enterprise will be located in the Ijodkor mahalla within a special industrial zone. A 10-hectare site has been allocated for the project, with production capacity planned at up to 700 electric buses per year.

The plant is scheduled to begin operations in December 2027. During the first stage, it will focus on manufacturing electric buses. The project later envisages launching production of electric trucks.

The vehicles will be supplied to the domestic market in Uzbekistan and exported to foreign countries. The project is expected to contribute to the development of Ferghana region’s industrial potential and create new jobs.

Ferghana Region Governor Khairullo Bozorov, entrepreneurs and investors, representatives of the public and veterans attended the project launch ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Bozorov congratulated participants on the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence and highlighted the results of reforms being implemented in the country. He said a broad range of development projects had been carried out in Yazyavan district in recent years.

The governor also emphasized the importance of expanding the use of alternative energy sources and developing modern environmentally friendly transport.

Poet Oktamkhon Soliyeva, a recipient of the Order of Soglom Avlod Uchun, Second Class, also addressed the event. On behalf of district activists and representatives of the older generation, she expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the reforms and opportunities being created.

The event concluded with a foundation stone-laying ceremony, after which construction work began.
