Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s banking sector recorded 12.3 trillion soums in net profit as of 1 August 2026, up 68.1% from 7.3 trillion soums a year earlier, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said.

Banks’ non-interest income increased by 51.5%, while net interest margin rose by 9.5% over the period.

Interest income increased by 18.3% to 84.4 trillion soums, while interest expenses grew faster, by 22.1%, to 60.8 trillion soums. As a result, net interest income reached 23.6 trillion soums, compared with 21.6 trillion soums a year earlier.

Non-interest income rose to 61.5 trillion soums from 40.6 trillion soums. Non-interest expenses increased by 37.8% to 20.3 trillion soums, while operating expenses rose by 26.9% to 20.2 trillion soums. Net non-interest income more than doubled, from 9.9 trillion soums to 21 trillion soums.

Banks increased their provisions. Estimated losses on loans and leasing amounted to 21 trillion soums, compared with 15.6 trillion soums a year earlier, while estimated non-credit losses stood at 9.5 trillion soums, up from 7 trillion soums.

Pre-tax profit for the sector increased by 57.5% to 14.1 trillion soums. Income tax expenses rose by 8.8% to 1.7 trillion soums.

The ratio of pre-tax profit to total assets (ROA) increased from 1.89% to 2.5%, while the ratio of net profit to total capital (ROE) rose from 10.43% to 14.83%.

At the same time, the ratio of net interest income to total assets declined from 4.34% to 3.98%, while net interest margin relative to assets fell from 4.57% to 4.2%.

The ratio of net interest income from loans to the loan portfolio stood at 6.28%, compared with 6.42% a year earlier.

The bulk of the sector’s profit came from the largest banks. Twelve banks with assets of more than 30 trillion soums earned 8.4 trillion soums, or 68.2% of the sector’s total net profit, with a return on equity of 13.1%.

Ten banks with assets ranging from 10 trillion to 30 trillion soums posted 3.1 trillion soums in profit, with a return on equity of 22.3%.

Seven banks with assets of 3 trillion to 10 trillion soums recorded 771 billion soums in profit, with a return on equity of 21.9%.

The five smallest banks, with assets of up to 3 trillion soums, earned 37.5 billion soums, while their return on equity stood at 2.4%.
