Uzbekistan and Singapore Launch Free Trade Talks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Singapore agreed to initiate negotiations on establishing a free trade regime, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan reported.

A corresponding document was signed on 28 August 2026 during the visit of Singapore Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Uzbekistan, with the participation of Uzbek Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov. The launch of negotiations aims to expand bilateral trade and improve market access for goods between the two nations.

During the ceremony, agreements were also finalized with the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise to collaborate on the development of special economic zones, drawing on Singapore's expertise in the sector.

A separate agreement covering the food industry was signed with the participation of international corporations Wilmar International and Indorama. The project establishes vegetable oil production and processing facilities in the Tashkent region, with plans to subsequently develop livestock feed production and poultry farming to build integrated agricultural and food manufacturing supply chains.

The signing of the documents took place on 28 August 2026 as part of the bilateral program for Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong's visit.
