Uzbekistan and Singapore expand intellectual property cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Singapore have agreed to expand cooperation in the field of intellectual property, including its commercialization, the digitalization of patent examination, and dispute resolution through mediation, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Justice reported.
The agreements were reached during negotiations between an Uzbek delegation led by Minister of Justice Akbar Tashkulov and Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) Tan Kong Hwee during Singapore Convention Week 2026.
Singapore Convention Week 2026 is an international event held in Singapore focused on best practices in mediation, arbitration, and international commercial disputes. Participants are also examining the application of legal technologies and artificial intelligence in dispute resolution.
During the meeting, representatives of Uzbekistan and IPOS discussed exchanging experience on commercializing intellectual property and transforming it into an economic asset. Cooperation in digitalizing patent examination will form a separate area of interaction.
The sides also agreed to share experience in using mediation to resolve intellectual property disputes. This mechanism is being considered as part of the further development of cooperation between the relevant bodies of the two countries.
Another outcome of the talks was an agreement to organize training sessions featuring Singaporean specialists. These will aim to enhance the skills of Uzbek professionals in intellectual property commercialization and startup acceleration.
The delegation of Uzbekistan is participating in Singapore Convention Week 2026 under the leadership of Minister of Justice Akbar Tashkulov. As part of the international week, the parties are also discussing the use of modern legal tools and technologies in dispute resolution.
Cooperation with IPOS involves introducing international experience into national practice, developing approaches to intellectual property commercialization, and improving dispute resolution mechanisms.
