Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) have signed a joint declaration establishing a framework for cooperation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The document was signed on 19 October 2026 at a workshop in Tashkent, laying the groundwork for SDSN to begin official activities in Uzbekistan and for long-term cooperation on achieving the SDGs, the ministry's information service said.
The workshop brought together representatives of relevant ministries and government agencies, international organisations, development partners and sustainable development experts. Participants reviewed Uzbekistan's progress towards the SDGs, approaches to improving national and international monitoring, and methods for analysing indicators at the regional level.
The declaration is intended to strengthen engagement with international experts, facilitate the use of SDSN's scientific and expert expertise, and support the application of international methodologies in Uzbekistan's national practices.
During the workshop, SDSN specialists presented the methodology behind the Sustainable Development Goals Index (SDG Index). They explained the principles used to select and assess indicators, normalise and aggregate data, and track progress towards individual goals.
Participants also discussed how to compare Uzbekistan's national and regional indicators and make more effective use of available data.
Another focus was the use of geographic information systems and Earth observation technologies to monitor progress towards the SDGs. Discussions included international approaches to assessing land degradation.
The preparation of sustainable development reports was also on the agenda. Experts examined how to align Uzbekistan's national system for assessing SDG implementation with international approaches and improve the quality of data at the regional level.
The workshop and other events held during the SDSN delegation's visit are aimed at strengthening international cooperation and improving the tools used to assess Uzbekistan's progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
