Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation of Latvian entrepreneurs who arrived in the country as part of a business mission.

The talks were held ahead of the Uzbek-Latvian business forum, which will take place in Tashkent on 8 October, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan said.

The Latvian delegation included representatives of the transport and logistics sector, agriculture, investment, chemical industry, modern technologies, certification and green energy.

One of the key topics of the talks was the establishment of an Uzbek-Latvian logistics hub based at the Freeport of Riga. The sides also discussed bringing together exporters and importers from the two countries and opportunities for jointly entering third-country markets.

Agricultural projects were another area of discussion. Participants considered opportunities for cooperation in agricultural processing, fruit and berry cultivation and freezing, greenhouse construction, and the production of biogas and organic fertilisers.

Considerable attention was paid to certification. The Latvian side presented opportunities for cooperation with a local certification and testing centre with more than 115 years of history. Potential cooperation could include establishing a joint venture or opening a branch.

The Latvian entrepreneurs were also presented with opportunities to enter the European market under the GSP+ system. The sides also discussed prospects for cooperation in startups, venture investment and information technology.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to hold an online meeting with the participation of Uzbek entrepreneurs to discuss certification issues.

The sides also agreed to maintain regular dialogue on priority areas of cooperation.

The next stage of bilateral business engagement will be the business forum, which will be held in Tashkent on 8 October.
