Uzbekistan and China Sign Intellectual Property Cooperation Agreements
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Deputy Minister of Justice of Uzbekistan and Head of the National Intellectual Property Authority Muzraf Ikramov met with the Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) Shen Changyu on the sidelines of the 68th series of Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the legal protection of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, and industrial designs.
Particular attention was paid to personnel training, exchange of experience, and improving the patent examination system. The Chinese side confirmed its readiness to continue providing practical support in training and raising the qualifications of state patent examiners from Uzbekistan within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Following the meeting, the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan and the China National Intellectual Property Administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of intellectual property, as well as a Memorandum on the implementation of the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) fast-track patent examination program.
The documents provide for the development of cooperation in patents, trademarks, and industrial designs, raising the qualifications of state patent examiners and specialized professionals, implementing the PPH mechanism, expanding the network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC), assisting in the commercialization of intellectual property, and improving the national innovation ecosystem.
The Ministry of Justice noted that the implementation of these agreements will contribute to strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China, developing innovative activities, accelerating technology transfer, and expanding long-term cooperation in the field of intellectual property.
