Tashkent Universities to Start Classes at 8:00 AM Starting 2026/2027 Academic Year
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Starting in the 2026/2027 academic year, morning classes at higher education institutions located in Tashkent will begin at 8:00 AM, according to a report from the press service of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations of Uzbekistan.
The decision applies to all higher education institutions situated in the capital city. Implementing a unified morning start time across urban campuses is intended to distribute peak transport loads more evenly and ease congestion on major arterial roads and public transport networks during morning commute hours.
The shift follows ongoing municipal evaluations regarding working hours for public institutions. Previously, the Tashkent City Administration launched a public survey to gather feedback on shifting operating hours for city and district municipal departments, administration offices, and subordinate units to an 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule.
Class schedules for capital universities were previously adjusted for similar traffic management purposes. In January 2023, schedule changes were introduced across 31 higher education institutions located near Metro stations, staggering start times—five universities began classes at 8:00 AM, one at 8:30 AM, and the remainder at 9:30 AM—to reduce morning congestion across the Tashkent Metro system.
Under the new policy, all higher education institutions across Tashkent will align their primary morning schedules to start at 8:00 AM for the upcoming academic year.
