Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis Sodiq Safoyev met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Sameer Paul Kapur to discuss the current state and future prospects of Uzbekistan-U.S. relations. This was reported by the press service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

The two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation during the talks.

The participants noted that the partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States has reached a new level in recent years and emphasized the importance of making effective use of the existing potential to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation.

Sameer Paul Kapur praised Uzbekistan's large-scale economic reforms and its policy aimed at strengthening good-neighborly relations, mutual trust and regional cooperation in Central Asia.

Safoyev also briefed the U.S. delegation on the activities of the Oliy Majlis, the role of parliament in the country's state and public development, and legislative efforts to support the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan.
