Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the reconstructed Turon Stadium in Nukus during his visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
The renovation of the complex has created new opportunities for the development of grassroots and professional football in the region, the identification of talented young players and improved athlete training.
The work was carried out in accordance with the tasks set out in the presidential resolution of 7 April 2023, “On Additional Measures for the Comprehensive Development of Grassroots and Professional Football.”
The total cost of the project amounted to 118.6 billion soums. The complex provides permanent employment for 85 people. Following the reconstruction, the stadium’s capacity increased from 9,300 to 12,000 seats.
Turon Stadium serves as the home ground of the professional football club Aral. Regular training sessions and training camps are held here for 190 students of the Republican Football Academy. The complex also has two sports halls and two additional stadiums.
A 196-bed dormitory, an 84-seat canteen, gyms and tactical analysis rooms have been provided for academy students. Facilities have also been created to accommodate simultaneous training for 100-150 athletes in athletics, boxing and taekwondo.
The stadium features dedicated platforms for media organizations, camera positions for detecting offsides and a separate area for a centralized VAR system. The infrastructure is designed to support the staging and coverage of competitions at a high level.
The president reviewed the facilities at the complex and gave recommendations and instructions on developing sports, particularly football, in Karakalpakstan.
Mirziyoyev also spoke warmly with young athletes who were training at the stadium and took a commemorative photograph with them.
