Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Hwang Ki-yeon, chairman of the Export-Import Bank of Korea, during his state visit to the Republic of Korea. The sides discussed further development of financial and investment cooperation, as well as the implementation of joint projects, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
The meeting was attended by Kwon Yi-gyun, president of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), and Bum Sun Kim, deputy director of the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIRAM).
The sides noted many years of cooperation with the Export-Import Bank of Korea and its funds in the fields of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, critical materials, education and transport.
Mirziyoyev supported the signing of a new partnership program worth $8 billion. The meeting also addressed ways to accelerate the implementation of projects involving the supply of high-speed trains, the establishment of a BioCenter, the processing of critical minerals and the development of digital technologies.
Particular attention was paid to the establishment of a Women’s Entrepreneurship Center in the Aral Sea region. The sides also discussed attracting Korean financial institutions and companies to the project to build a new Tashkent–Samarkand railway.
The sides noted the launch of a joint fund to finance projects in the field of critical minerals.
During the meeting, it was proposed to prepare a project to establish a Center for the Design and Testing of Semiconductors and New Materials.
The importance of the active participation of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, as well as the Korea Rare Metals Institute, in implementing these projects was emphasized.
