Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — More than 120 local enterprises took part in a Road Show focused on opportunities for their involvement in the construction of the New Tashkent international airport.
The event was held on 3 October as part of the new international airport construction project and was organised jointly by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, the Agency for Industrial Cooperation and Public Procurement, and Larsen & Toubro.
Participants were presented with information about the project, its technical specifications, expected volumes of construction work, goods and services to be procured, as well as requirements for contractors.
The main objective of the event was to expand the participation of local manufacturers, suppliers and subcontractors in the implementation of the major infrastructure project and develop their cooperation with international contractors.
During the Road Show, the production capacities and technical capabilities of local companies were discussed, their proposals were reviewed and potential areas of cooperation were identified.
The organisers also plan to study the experience and production capabilities of local enterprises to identify companies that could participate in supplying goods, providing services and carrying out contract work under the project.
The New Tashkent international airport project is being implemented on an area of 1,310 hectares in Tashkent Region. Investment in the construction of the first phase amounts to US$2.7 billion.
At the first stage, the airport will be designed to handle up to 20 million passengers annually. Its capacity is planned to be increased to 46 million passengers at a later stage.
In addition to the passenger terminal complex, the project includes a cargo terminal, an air traffic control tower, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and catering facilities, as well as modern navigation and meteorological systems.
The involvement of local manufacturers and suppliers in the project is viewed as an opportunity to increase local content, establish new cooperation links, adopt modern technologies and stimulate the development of production capacities.
At the same time, participation in an international infrastructure project could provide local companies with opportunities to cooperate with major international contractors and expand their expertise.
