Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Japan’s Immigration Services Agency recently deported an Uzbek citizen who had been staying illegally in the country. The deportation was carried out at the expense of the state budget, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan said.
According to the embassy, the Uzbek citizen entered Japan on a short-term visa. After the permitted period of stay expired, he did not leave the country and was later detained by the authorities.
The embassy reminded Uzbek citizens that violations involving illegal stay and illegal work in Japan can result in strict measures, including detention and arrest by police, placement in an immigration detention centre and deportation. The Japanese government provides information about violators to the Uzbek government, meaning that relevant measures may also be taken after their return to Uzbekistan.
The diplomatic mission urged Uzbek citizens to exercise extreme caution and not trust reckless offers of opportunities to earn money in Japan.
The embassy also warned against the widespread misconception that applying for refugee status allows a person to remain in Japan or work there for an extended period. Applications for refugee status cannot be submitted for such a purpose. If an application for refugee status is rejected, the applicant may be placed in an immigration detention centre or deported.
The embassy also stressed that serious legal measures apply to the provision of false information or the use of fraudulent schemes when applying for refugee status.
