Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Customs officials at Tashkent International Airport have stopped the attempted import of undeclared jewelry and gold bars worth a total of 1.2 billion soums, the press service of the Tashkent-AERO Specialized Customs Complex said.
During an inspection of the baggage of a passenger arriving from Dubai, customs officials found 141 pieces of jewelry with a total weight of 921.37 grams, as well as three gold bars.
The baggage also contained 120 packs of tobacco products without excise stamps and 90 units of nicotine snus.
A criminal case has been opened over the violation.
Earlier, five residents of Andijan and Ferghana regions attempted to take gold worth 1.1 billion soums from Uzbekistan to India. They concealed gold bars and jewelry with a total weight of 755 grams inside their bodies.
