Germany Thrash Curacao 7-1 in World Cup Opener
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Germany made a strong start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a convincing victory over Curacao in their opening Group E match.
The game, played in Houston, ended in a 7-1 win for the four-time world champions. Germany’s goals were scored by Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, Deniz Undav and Kai Havertz, who netted twice.
Curacao, appearing in the World Cup finals for the first time, scored its only goal through Livano Comenencia in the 21st minute.
Curacao head coach Dick Advocaat also attracted attention during the tournament. At the age of 78, he became the oldest coach in World Cup history.
Following the opening round of matches, Germany moved to the top of the race for a place in the knockout stage in Group E.
Germany will face Côte d’Ivoire in its next match, while Curacao will take on Ecuador. Both games are scheduled for 20 June.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 national teams and is being hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The final is scheduled for 19 July.
