Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will pay an official visit to Uzbekistan on 17–18 June 2026, according to the Office of the Federal President of Germany.

The visit to Uzbekistan is part of Steinmeier’s broader Asian tour, which also included Indonesia and the Philippines. He will be accompanied by his wife, Elke Büdenbender.

Upon arrival in Tashkent, Steinmeier will be welcomed by Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. The first day’s programme includes a wreath-laying ceremony at Uzbekistan’s Independence Monument, followed by an official meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Kuksaroy presidential residence with military honours.

The central focus of the talks between the two presidents will be the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Following the meeting, representatives of the German business delegation will sign agreements on a number of projects involving German companies in Uzbekistan in the presence of the two heads of state.

As a symbol of friendship between the two countries, Steinmeier and Mirziyoyev will jointly plant a tree in the garden of the presidential residence. In the evening, the President of Uzbekistan will host an official dinner in honour of the German guest.

The second day of the visit will begin with a tour of the Centre of Islamic Civilization, described as the world’s largest museum of Islamic culture. Steinmeier will also visit the Uzbek division of German construction company GP Günter Papenburg, where he will take part in an event focused on labour migration of skilled specialists.

During the event, the German president will meet students, representatives of German companies and mentors. After completing the programme, Steinmeier will depart for Berlin.

The visit is aimed at strengthening political ties between the two countries, deepening economic cooperation, and expanding collaboration in education and the attraction of qualified personnel. A business delegation is accompanying the German president during the trip.
