Ferghana Region and Mitsui Discuss Investment Projects
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The administration of Uzbekistan's Ferghana region discussed expanding investment cooperation with Japanese trading and investment company Mitsui & Co., Ltd. during a bilateral meeting on 4 September 2026. Ferghana Region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov hosted a delegation headed by Tomo Shingo, Chief Representative of Mitsui & Co.'s office in Uzbekistan.
During the talks, the parties reviewed prospects for implementing new projects utilizing Japanese technologies and strengthening regional investment ties. Participants highlighted the steady growth of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan, placing emphasis on expanding interregional links, increasing Japanese-backed investment projects, and supporting mutual delegation visits.
The meeting also addressed the adoption of Japanese educational practices in the Ferghana region. Regional authorities have introduced Japanese teaching methodologies on an experimental basis, while local higher education institutions are applying updated instructional approaches to specialist training.
Proposals raised during negotiations included potential joint ventures across the oil industry, water supply systems, fruit and vegetable processing, infrastructure development, tourism, and education. Following the talks, both sides agreed to take steps toward advancing these initiatives and deepening organizational cooperation.
The negotiations were also attended by Tulkinjon Rakhimov, Chief Representative of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in Kazakhstan, and Mirzokhid Ubaydullayev, First Deputy Governor of the Ferghana region. Headquartered in Tokyo, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. operates in 62 countries and has maintained an official presence in Uzbekistan since 1993, managing investments in energy, infrastructure, transport, agriculture, chemicals, digital technology, and logistics.
