Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Ferghana Region and the Japanese city of Maizuru have agreed to expand interregional cooperation in tourism, culture, sports and investment.
The issues were discussed during a working visit to Japan by a regional delegation led by Khurshidjon Akhmedov, deputy governor of Ferghana Region.
The delegation also included Bahodir Kholikov, governor of Rishtan district. In Maizuru, the regional representatives met with Mayor Komoda Akitsu and Ryuji Kimotsuki, chairman of the city council.
The sides discussed ways to make more effective use of the potential of both areas, exchange experience and implement joint projects. Maizuru and Rishtan district already have sister-city status.
Participants expressed their readiness to develop existing ties and expand cooperation into new areas.
One of the agreements reached was to hold Maizuru Days in Rishtan district and Ferghana Days in the Japanese city.
During the visit, the delegation also toured the Red Brick Museum, established under the Maizuru municipal administration, and the city’s Memorial Museum.
Representatives of Ferghana Region learned about the city’s history, cultural heritage and exhibits related to World War II.
The delegation also took part in the “Memory and Peace” event and paid tribute to the victims of the war.
The sides further agreed to establish cooperation between museums in Ferghana Region and Maizuru.
The visit aims to strengthen friendly ties between Ferghana Region and the Japanese city and develop joint initiatives in culture, tourism and other fields.
