Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A child died after drinking an insecticide at State Kindergarten No. 6 in Akhangaran, Tashkent Region, and spending two days in hospital.
The Tashkent Region Department of Preschool and School Education reported the incident on 27 September.
According to preliminary information, the child’s grandmother worked as a cook at the kindergarten through an outsourcing organization. On 28 August, the boy, who was born in 2023, came to the kitchen where his grandmother was working and drank an insecticide. He died in hospital on 30 August.
Authorities are currently investigating how the child entered the kitchen area, why the hazardous substance was kept within the child’s reach and who was responsible for storing it.
The Tashkent Region Department of Preschool and School Education said all circumstances of the incident would be thoroughly investigated. It said measures would be taken in accordance with the law against those whose responsibility is established.
Uzbekistan’s Prosecutor General’s Office reported on 28 September that a criminal case had been opened under Part 3 of Article 116 of the Criminal Code.
The provision establishes liability for improper performance of professional duties that negligently results in a person’s death.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, one person has been identified as a suspect as part of the investigation.
