Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek para-athlete Asli Mirzayorova is among 10 candidates in the elections to the Athletes Committee under the Executive Board of the Asian Paralympic Committee (AsPC) for the 2026–2030 term, the Asian Paralympic Committee said.
Along with the Uzbek representative, Salama Alhateri (UAE, para-cycling), Zeinalubdin Al-Madhkouri (Iraq, wheelchair fencing), Mari Amimoto (Japan, wheelchair basketball), Siyovush Ilyasov (Tajikistan, para-cycling), Sareh Javanmardi (Iran, para-shooting), Abdelkarim Khattab (Jordan, powerlifting), Yumin Won (Republic of Korea, wheelchair rugby and cross-country skiing), Yu Chui Yee (Hong Kong, China, wheelchair fencing) and Zhao Shuai (China, table tennis) are contesting seats on the Athletes Committee.
The elections will be held as part of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Paralympic Games, which will take place on 18–23 October. All accredited athletes taking part in the Games will be able to vote until 23 October, and the election results will be announced on 24 October.
Voting will be conducted through an online platform, access to which will be provided via QR codes placed at specially designated facilities.
Asian Paralympic Committee President Majid Rashed noted the role of the Athletes Committee in ensuring athletes' participation in the APC's decision-making process. According to him, athletes' voices, experience and views should be taken into account when making decisions about the future of para-sport in Asia.
To take part in the elections, candidates had to be active athletes who had previously competed at the Asian Paralympic Games or who plan to take part in Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
The Athletes Committee consists of five members elected by athletes participating in the summer Asian Paralympic Games. After being elected, the five members will choose a chairman who will replace the current head of the Athletes Committee, Hirojuki Misaka of Japan.
Misaka said that one of his main tasks was to ensure the successful holding of Aichi-Nagoya 2026 and to make sure athletes' voices are heard.
He also noted the importance of representation in the new Athletes Committee membership of people with different experience, from different countries and with different disabilities and sports disciplines.
In addition to the five elected members, two more people may be co-opted onto the committee, subject to approval by the APC Executive Board. This should ensure broader representation of the diversity of the Paralympic movement in Asia.
