Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A total of 586 trees and shrubs were illegally uprooted on a 2-hectare plot of land in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region, causing environmental damage estimated at 1 billion 705 million 660 thousand soums.
The Tashkent Regional Department of Ecology and Climate Change said the inspection was launched after information about tree cutting in Bostanlyk district was circulated on social media.
A working group comprising officials from the regional Department of Ecology and Climate Change and the Bostanlyk district Eco Police visited the site to examine the situation.
According to the inspection, Y.D. LLC illegally uprooted trees and shrubs, including their roots, on its 2-hectare plot in the Gazalkent mahalla.
The inspection identified 586 uprooted plants, including nine valuable hawthorn trees, three juniper trees, three low-value cherry plum trees and 571 honeysuckle bushes.
The environmental authorities said the entrepreneur had previously received warnings several times. However, according to the department, the legal requirements were not complied with, and the entrepreneur attempted to resist during the work.
The Eco Police stopped the violation. The remaining tree material was subsequently removed using special equipment, and specialists calculated the environmental damage.
According to the calculations, the damage amounted to 1 billion 705 million 660 thousand soums.
The collected materials are planned to be sent to law enforcement agencies for a legal assessment and appropriate measures.
