"DEN-za" (stress on the first syllable).
multi-fold growth, 2025Denza (pronounced "DEN-za") started life as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz Group — a rare case of a Chinese luxury brand with actual German engineering pedigree, not just a marketing nod to it. The marque launched in March 2012, and by April was already showing a next-gen EV concept at Auto China. Since 2013 the plant has steadily built 40,000 cars a year.
Distinguishing feature
In 2014, Denza outsold Audi and BMW in China — a serious bid at the luxury segment. In September 2024, Mercedes-Benz exited the joint venture, leaving BYD as sole owner of the brand.
