Uzbekistan adopts law on creative economy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law on the "Creative Economy," aimed at supporting and developing creative industries, as well as regulating relationships in this sector.

The law was passed by the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on 30 September 2024.

Its main goal is to create conditions for unlocking the creative and intellectual potential of citizens in areas of the creative economy, including literary creativity, applied arts and crafts, architecture, urban planning, audiovisual and performing arts, as well as creative activities in digital technologies.

To implement a unified state policy in this field, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan will coordinate efforts.

Additionally, a Republican Council for the Development of the Creative Economy has been established, serving as an advisory body.

One of the key provisions of the law is the establishment of a creative industry park, which will facilitate attracting investments, supporting innovations, and collaborating with educational institutions and business incubators.

Companies generating at least 80% of their revenues from creative projects will be able to become residents of the park, gaining access to consulting services and acceleration programs.

The law comes into effect upon official publication.
