Uzbekistan’s Emergency Ministry Identifies Cause of Gas Explosion in Residential Building in Kokand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan has released the results of its investigation into the gas explosion that occurred on 25 February in a residential building in Kokand, which claimed the life of a 19-year-old man.

According to the ministry’s experts, the tragedy was caused by the use of a faulty and non-standard gas hose in the apartment of the owner. The investigation determined that a connecting element that did not meet technical standards was used with the gas stove, leading to a gas leak and subsequent explosion in the enclosed space.

The Emergency Ministry emphasized the importance of automated gas safety systems. Specifically, gas detectors signal a shut-off device when a leak is detected, which automatically cuts off the gas supply and significantly reduces the risk of explosion. Citizens were urged to strictly follow safety regulations when using gas appliances and to use only certified, properly functioning components.

The explosion occurred in one of the multi-apartment buildings in the Buston mahalla. The gas ignition caused a fire and damaged several apartments. A criminal case has been opened under paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan — “Violation of fire safety rules resulting in death.”
