Uzbekistan to strengthen support for low-income families and people with disabilities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been briefed on new measures aimed at supporting low-income families, ensuring employment for people with disabilities, and expanding the coverage and types of social services available.
Uzbekistan pays special attention to vulnerable populations by providing both material and moral assistance. As part of the “From Poverty to Prosperity” program, support is offered in employment, education, healthcare, and other areas.
The government proposes categorizing low-income families into three groups based on their socio-economic status. Over 100 types of social services, benefits, and allowances are currently available to such families. A new law is expected to regulate inclusion in the “Register of Low-Income Families.” Each family will have an individualized poverty-reduction plan, along with targeted services and assistance. Efforts will also be made to remove employment barriers and help families achieve a stable income.
Children from low-income households will be exempt from paying for after-school care, while top-performing students will have access to free stays at wellness camps. Female students with excellent academic records from low-income families will receive special scholarships equal to twice the standard amount.
New employment incentives for people with disabilities were also reviewed. Light industry enterprises hiring people with disabilities will receive tax breaks, and the social tax rate for such employees will be reduced. Employers will be eligible for subsidies of up to 500 million soums from the State Social Protection Fund.
The government also plans to increase public procurement of goods and services produced by people with disabilities via electronic platforms. Inclusive vocational training programs will be launched in technical colleges.
A new initiative called “Step Toward an Active Life” will expand social services for individuals requiring permanent care. It will offer day-care and home-based support, help with household tasks, physical rehabilitation, disease prevention, and other medical and social services.
President Mirziyoyev approved the proposed measures and instructed officials to ensure their systematic implementation and monitoring.
