Uzbekistan to implement national strategy for combating childhood cancer for 2025–2030
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 May 2025, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed Resolution “On Measures for the Implementation of the National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Combating Childhood Cancer for 2025–2030.”
The strategy aims to systematically improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of oncological diseases among children. The key goals for the next five years include increasing the early detection rate of childhood cancer to 65 percent; raising the one-year survival rate for children with oncological and oncohematological diseases from 34 percent to 90 percent, and the five-year survival rate to at least 60 percent; and ensuring 100 percent coverage of children with specialized medical care.
As part of the strategy’s implementation, a Comprehensive Action Program for 2025–2026 has been approved. In the first phase, the project will be launched in medical institutions in the city of Samarkand and the Ishtikhan district, with plans for subsequent expansion to other regions.
The strategy provides for the introduction of a digital patient pathway—from registration to outpatient monitoring. Online appointment scheduling and remote consultations are planned to be launched. By the end of 2025, artificial intelligence technologies will be integrated into the treatment and monitoring processes.
Based at the Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, and Immunology, an International Academic Hub for Pediatric Oncology will be established. This hub will serve as a scientific and educational platform offering the implementation of international accredited educational programs with a credit accumulation system within continuous medical education, as well as the analysis and forecasting of epidemiological trends for strategic planning and the development of preventive measures.
The implementation of the National Strategy will represent an important step toward providing effective and accessible care for children suffering from oncological diseases, while also strengthening Uzbekistan’s position in medical reforms and international cooperation.
