Uzbekistan reduces transit tariff for Kazakh grain to Afghanistan by 40%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has reduced the transit tariff for grain from Kazakhstan to Afghanistan by 40%, according to a press release from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways).
On 29 March, a working meeting took place in Almaty between the heads of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Uzbekistan Temir Yullari. The meeting focused on further developing transport and logistics cooperation, reviewing the results of joint work in the previous year, and setting plans for 2025.
Kazakhstan increased the capacity of the Saryagash border crossing by 50%, ensuring "full implementation of all freight forwarders' plans."
During the meeting, representatives from Uzbekistan Temir Yullari announced a 40% reduction in the tariff for the transit of Kazakh grain to Afghanistan. This decision applies to the transportation of grain through the intergovernmental border point Oasis (in Karakalpakstan) to the railway station Galaba in the Surkhandarya region.
Additionally, the parties agreed to intensify their joint efforts in developing the Trans-Afghan Corridor.
