Uzbekistan Proposes Ban on Taxis Older Than 15 Years
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to tighten regulations for taxi and passenger transport services.
According to the draft Law “On Transport,” currently under discussion, vehicles older than 15 years would be prohibited from operating as taxis, and all vehicles in service would be required to have official “passports” containing markings and full information about the vehicle.
The draft law also expands the authority of the Ministry of Transport. The ministry would gain the right to control tariffs, digitize processes, and regulate the operation of buses, trains, airplanes, and the metro.
The state would retain the ability to set price limits on socially important routes.
For passengers, the law guarantees the right to a refund or compensation in the event of delays or cancellations.
Transport operators would be required to offer cashless payment via terminals and provide full liability insurance for clients.
The new rules would not apply to private car owners; the use of personal vehicles for private purposes or occasional roadside assistance would not require licensing.
