Uzbekistan - Latvia: Issues of promising cooperation discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting was held at the Uzbekiston Temir Yollari joint-stock company with a delegation of the Latvian Railway State JSC Latvijas dzelzceļš, headed by Chairman of the Board Maris Kleinbergs. Guests were received acting Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC "Uzbekiston Temir Yollari" Akmal Kamalov.

The meeting was held in a constructive way. A number of issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed. The guests noted the long-standing cooperation with Uzbekistan and expressed their hope for further fruitful partnership.

- Uzbekistan has a number of advantages in the development of the railway sector, and we are interested in further developing our cooperation, - says M. Kleinberg. - For example, the Tashkent State University of Transport trains highly qualified personnel, while there are no such universities in Latvia, there are only specialized training centers. The manufacturing sector, the country’s ability to build cars, manufacture components and spare parts for rolling stock and railway equipment deserves high praise. Of particular note is the level of growth in the electrification of railways and the construction of new steel lines.

The parties exchanged mutually beneficial proposals, outlined certain tasks and a development vector in such matters as increasing the volume of cargo transportation, exchanging experience, considering options for purchasing components and spare parts for wagons and locomotives produced at the enterprises of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari JSC, as well as establishing cooperation in electronic workflow.
