Uzbekistan, IOM discuss ensuring safe and regulated migration processes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 December 2024, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a meeting with the head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mission in Uzbekistan, Andrew Gray.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that Uzbekistan actively cooperates with the International Organization for Migration, and the organization’s activities in promoting safe, regulated, and orderly migration fully align with the country’s national priorities.
It was noted that in recent years, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, migration policy in Uzbekistan has gained significant importance and is considered a key element of state policy. In this context, Uzbekistan became a full member of the International Organization for Migration in 2019.
Additionally, it was highlighted that to regulate labor migration and introduce new mechanisms into practice, 16 legal acts have been adopted. Educational programs, preferential lending systems, and support measures for migrants returning home have been created.
The parties also discussed issues related to diversifying Uzbekistan’s labor migration markets, reducing dependence on traditional destinations, and strengthening the social protection of migrants.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed mutual interest in further improving migration management, ensuring safe and regulated migration processes, and taking practical measures to protect the rights of migrants.
