Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Uzbekistan is studying all the pros and cons of joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov in an interview with Russian media.
“As for the EAEU, we began to participate in some meetings, and at the highest level. We are studying all the pros and cons, having a strong desire to take advantage of the opening opportunities for the development of our economy, regional and international cooperation, bearing in mind, first of all, the economic dimension of interaction,” the Foreign Minister said.
"At the same time, I want to say frankly, we are looking closely at some of the critical remarks of those who have been directly full members of the EAEU for several years," he added.
Abdulaziz Kamilov said: “We study what is their dissatisfaction, claims, criticism so that we do not repeat the same. That is, on the one hand, we will carefully study, move towards taking advantage of the opening opportunities. But, at the same time, we want to do it with the lowest cost and taking into account the experience of our neighbors.”
Uzbekistan received observer status in the EAEU in December 2020.
The EAEU is an international organization for regional economic integration. Now the EAEU includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia. Moldova, Cuba and Uzbekistan are observer states.
