Uzbekistan and UNDP expand collaboration to accelerate progress on Sustainable development goals

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 26 May, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a meeting with Haoliang Xu, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

During the conversation, both parties highly appreciated the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNDP. It was noted that the country is currently implementing 43 projects totaling over US$163 million — one of the highest levels among countries in the region.

These projects cover key areas including the development of digital literacy among youth, expanding economic opportunities for women, modernizing the healthcare system, and improving the quality of public services.

The interlocutors reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening the partnership within the framework of the Country Programme for 2021–2025. Special attention was given to priority cooperation areas such as ensuring environmental sustainability, mitigating the ecological crisis in the Aral Sea region, promoting gender equality, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
