Uzbekistan and UNDP Discuss Strengthening Agricultural Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov, met today with Akiko Fuji, the resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the country.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the current outcomes of ongoing joint initiatives in the agricultural sector and identified priority areas for future cooperation.

The discussion focused on assessing the progress of bilateral projects, improving their effectiveness, enhancing results at the regional level, and refining practical implementation mechanisms. Special attention was given to introducing modern agrotechnologies, promoting rural employment, and supporting small-scale producers, all of which were positively evaluated by both sides.

Environmental and social projects in the Aral Sea region were also addressed. The participants highlighted the need to reduce land degradation, use water resources efficiently, create employment opportunities, and broadly implement “green economy” principles. Within programs targeting the Aral region, priority has been placed on restoring agro-ecosystems and developing climate-adaptive agriculture.

The meeting also covered practical implementation of HECI principles aimed at developing human capital, ensuring environmental sustainability, and increasing institutional efficiency.

At the conclusion of the discussions, both parties agreed to expand cooperation based on trust and transparency and to implement projects with specific, measurable results.
