Uzbekistan and Spain Expand Investment and Trade-Economic Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A major Uzbek-Spanish business forum was held in Spain’s capital, serving as the central platform to showcase the investment and export potential of the Central Asian republic.

According to Dunyo, the event brought together over 110 delegates, including leaders of leading companies and representatives of government bodies from both countries, to discuss new avenues for trade and economic cooperation.

The official opening was conducted by Farrukh Tursunov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Spain, who emphasized the strategic importance of deepening bilateral investment ties.

During the ceremonial session, Munira Aminova, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, read a welcoming address from Bahhtiyor Saidov, head of Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry, directed to the forum participants and guests.

From the Spanish side, high-ranking officials confirmed their readiness to expand partnership, including Laura Harillo, Deputy Director-General for Europe, Asia, and Oceania at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business, and Micaela Picasso, International Director of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. They highlighted the rapidly growing interest of the Spanish business community in Uzbekistan’s market, driven by systemic reforms improving the business climate.

The forum’s program featured presentations of Uzbekistan’s regional industrial potential, followed by concrete proposals from Spanish investors. Almar Water Solutions, for example, presented plans to build a modern water treatment complex in Samarkand Region, while New Greenhouses Projects proposed establishing high-tech greenhouse farms in Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya Regions. The energy sector and sustainable development were key topics in the presentation by Enhol Grupo.

The practical outcome of intensive B2B negotiations was the signing of four key cooperation documents. Of particular importance was an export contract under which Uzbekistan will begin regular deliveries of a wide range of agricultural products to the Spanish market, including nuts, legumes, and dried fruits.

Concluding the forum, both sides reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to substantially expanding trade and economic ties and strengthening direct dialogue between the business communities of Madrid and Tashkent.
