Uzbekistan and IFC expand cooperation in PPP projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 January 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where Deputy Minister Ilkhomjon Umrizaqov met with representatives of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), led by the manager for Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, Neil McKean.

During the meeting, the parties discussed projects being implemented under public-private partnership (PPP) principles, assessed their current status, and explored opportunities to expand such initiatives using modern approaches. The prospects for further cooperation in this area were also reviewed.

Special attention was given to accelerating the implementation of PPP projects in several key sectors. These included improving energy efficiency, particularly through the active use of renewable and green energy sources, and enhancing the efficiency of hydroelectric power plant projects. In the agricultural sector, the ongoing projects related to irrigation system development were discussed, while in transportation, issues related to the construction of modern highways were raised. The meeting also touched upon improving the electricity supply system and accelerating healthcare projects, including the construction of modern hospitals in regional areas.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides expressed their intention to continue developing mutually beneficial cooperation, increasing the effectiveness of joint projects, and adopting a systematic approach to their implementation in practice.
