Uzbekistan and Hungary Strengthen Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a meeting with László Kövér, Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary.

During the talks, both sides emphasized that relations based on mutual friendship and trust continue to strengthen. Special attention was given to Hungary’s recognition as Uzbekistan’s first strategic partner in the European Union in 2021, reflecting the result of a consistent high-level political dialogue.

Economic and investment cooperation was a key topic of discussion. Trade between the two countries has steadily grown in recent years, and joint projects and industrial collaboration are continuously expanding. Active engagement in the cultural and humanitarian sphere was also noted as a factor contributing to the deepening of bilateral ties.

The parties exchanged views on inter-parliamentary cooperation, including constitutional reforms, strengthening parliamentary oversight, and legislative amendments. Discussions also focused on enhancing the activities of friendship groups, organizing short-term internships for parliamentary staff, digitalizing the legislative process, and developing an e-parliament system.

Other areas of cooperation included science, education, water resource management, agriculture, and energy, as well as joint scientific research and the exchange of information on parliamentary activities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National Assembly of Hungary.

The document is aimed at further strengthening friendly relations between the two parliaments and developing cooperation based on mutual trust and mutually beneficial partnership.

The MoU provides for institutional strengthening of bilateral parliamentary ties, exchange of experience in constitutional reforms and legislative processes, improved interaction between parliaments and citizens, regular consultations between committees, expanded activities of friendship groups, and deeper cooperation between parliamentary administrations.

Both sides confirmed that parliamentary delegation visits will be conducted on the principles of equality and mutual interest and highlighted the potential for supporting joint projects with the participation of international organizations.

The signed MoU establishes a platform to elevate relations between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Hungary to a new level and to achieve concrete practical outcomes in the interests of the peoples of both countries.
