Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has discussed a draft law on the ratification of the Agreement on the Establishment of a Civil Defense Mechanism of the Organization of Turkic States, signed in Bishkek on 6 November 2024.

It was emphasized that in recent years, Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the member states of the Organization of Turkic States has been actively developing across various sectors. In this context, strengthening mutual cooperation between the emergency services of the member states and developing a legal framework for such cooperation have gained particular significance.

The Agreement, developed during the Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, consists of a preamble and eight articles. It covers several key areas, including:

• establishing effective cooperation between emergency management authorities;
• coordinating search and rescue operations in the event of natural disasters;
• systematizing monitoring, analysis, and experience sharing;
• defining legal frameworks and mechanisms for mutual assistance and enhanced cooperation.

The ratification of this Agreement is expected to enhance Uzbekistan’s preparedness for emergency situations and strengthen interstate collaboration in addressing the socio-economic consequences of natural disasters.

The draft law was approved by members of the Legislative Chamber and sent to the Senate for further consideration.
