Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan has developed a portable device for disinfecting drinking water. 

The device is intended for disinfection of drinking water in conditions where there is a risk of contamination of the drinking water source: in the field, camping, camping, business trips abroad, etc.

According to the Academy of Sciences, the operation of the device is based on the effect of electrolysis of metal ions into water, which destroy a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms (including pathogens of dysentery, cholera, typhoid, etc.). 

A unique feature of the device is the use of a specific tri-metal alloy, which provides the highest biocidal activity against a wide range of bacteria at low concentrations of metals that meet drinking water standards. The treated water is safe for consumption for 12 months after treatment.
