Uzbek MFA hosts meeting with the Regional Director of the UNICEF Children’s Fund for Europe and Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 November 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with the Regional Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for Europe and Central Asia Afshan Khan, who arrived in our country to participate in major international events in the field of children.

At the meeting, topical issues of interaction between Uzbekistan and UNICEF were considered, as well as long-term plans for further strengthening the partnership were outlined.

Afshan Khan noted with satisfaction the dynamics of development in recent years of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN Children’s Fund, the intensification of bilateral contacts on organizing and holding major joint events and projects in the republic.

She emphasized the key role of Uzbekistan in the region in the implementation of practical reforms in the field of comprehensive support for children, including the creation of favorable conditions for them to receive a quality education.

The UNICEF Regional Director highly appreciated the holding of the UNESCO World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education in Tashkent these days, which promotes a wide exchange of best practices to ensure universal, equitable and quality education.

During the meeting, Vladimir Norov briefed Afshan Khan on the large-scale reforms being carried out under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of social protection of children, protecting their health and providing quality education

Interest was expressed in further deepening fruitful cooperation with UNICEF in order to achieve concrete results in the interests of children and youth, including within the framework of the implementation of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy for 2022-2026.
