Uzbek FM speaks at the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 September 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov delivered a speech at the General Debates of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In his speech, the head of the Uzbek delegation emphasized the importance of strengthening the UN’s central role in solving global and regional problems. At the same time, the Organization itself must evolve to effectively respond to the ongoing changes.

- No country can avoid global risks and challenges or cope with them alone. The way out of the dangerous spiral of crises is seen in constructive dialogue and multilateral cooperation based on consideration and respect for the interests of all countries. Effective international cooperation is necessary for the world to become more stable, predictable and prosperous, Norov said.

The demand for the establishment of inter-civilizational and intercultural relations and dialogue in order to search for agreed approaches and solutions, remove global tension, uncertainty and unpredictability was noted. With this in mind, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on 16 September in Samarkand put forward the Samarkand initiative of solidarity in the name of common security and prosperity.

Its goal is to contribute to the restoration of mutual trust and stability in international relations, as well as to the strengthening of solidarity through the establishment of a broad dialogue free from geopolitical rivalry, ideological contradictions and disputes.

It was proposed to jointly consider the issues of practical implementation of the initiative of the Leader of Uzbekistan at the Samarkand Forum in 2023. with the participation of high UN representatives, political leaders, representatives of public, business and academic figures.
