Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 January 2022, Matilda Dimovska, Resident Representative of UNDP in Uzbekistan paid the first visit to Mr. Narzullo Oblomuradov in his new position as Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection. 

One of the highlights of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the complete phase-out of ozone-depleting substances and the application of energy-efficient technologies with zero ozone-depleting potential and low global warming potential in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector. The signing of this Memorandum means that Uzbekistan fully supports the implementation of green technologies that are energy efficient, ozone-friendly and safe for the environment.

During the official meeting, the parties also discussed areas for further cooperation and new initiatives and ready to launch joint projects to address environmental issues in the country. A number of proposals were put forward that can be jointly implemented as part of the forthcoming four-year investment cycle of the Global Environment Facility (GEF-8), as well as the creation of a financing mechanism to mobilize public and private resources for the implementation of the nationwide project “Yashil Makon”.

In conclusion, the two sides reaffirmed their readiness to support joint efforts to implement environmental initiatives for sustainable development and further strengthen cooperation in support of green development in Uzbekistan.
