The Tashkent branch of MEPhI launches a new program in information technology

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The modern world is rapidly evolving thanks to digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and advanced computing systems.

In this environment, highly qualified IT specialists are becoming key players in various fields of science, industry, and business. The Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Tashkent Branch of MEPhI, or TF MEPhI) has announced the launch of a new program, "Informatics and Computer Engineering." This expansion increases the number of bachelor's degree programs offered to six. According to TF MEPhI’s Executive Director Shavkat Abdukamillov, the decision to introduce an IT program was made based on a detailed analysis of labor market needs and Uzbekistan’s strategic goals for digitalizing its economy.

"Uzbekistan is becoming a hub for IT specialists, attracting both international companies and independent developers. We see strong demand for professionals with a solid academic foundation, and our university aims to carve out its niche in training highly skilled IT professionals capable of working not only in the commercial sector but also in strategic fields such as nuclear energy, cybersecurity, and complex technological process management," Abdukamillov stated.

Since its establishment in 2018, TF MEPhI has earned a reputation as a leading institution for training specialists in the energy sector. Currently, the university has around 250 students enrolled in four programs: "Nuclear Power and Thermophysics," "Nuclear Physics and Technologies," "Thermal Power Engineering and Heat Engineering," and "Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering." The first cohort of bachelor's degree graduates successfully completed their studies in 2023, with a significant number continuing their education at top global universities. Over the past two years, around 50 graduates have pursued master's degrees at MEPhI’s main campus in Moscow, as well as at leading technical universities in France, Italy, Hungary, Korea, and China. According to the branch, nearly half of its graduates are accepted into master's programs each year, highlighting the high level of academic preparation.

The introduction of the IT program has been made possible through partnerships with leading Russian and international companies. The university is already in talks with major players in the digital technology sector regarding internship opportunities and practical courses. TF MEPhI emphasizes that its IT training will be built on a strong mathematical foundation, which will be one of its key competitive advantages.

"MEPhI has a long-standing reputation for excellence in mathematics and physics education, and this strong academic foundation provides graduates with a significant advantage. They will not only be able to work in programming but also engage in complex technological developments related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and
