Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 June, in accordance with an agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Republic of Uzbekistan, a national workshop on preparation for the SEED mission "Assessment of safety at the nuclear power plant construction site and consideration of the program for placing a new nuclear device in Uzbekistan” started in Tashkent.

The five-day national seminar will include a number of practical and theoretical events such as the development of a nuclear power project and increasing its potential in the country, the security of territories where nuclear technologies are located, the technical aspects of placing nuclear technologies at facilities and its assessment, as well as indications for collective practice and preparation for review of safety reports.

It is planned to hold a presentation of international norms and rules on the siting of nuclear technologies and their features for responsible authorized persons of institutions at the training seminar, foreign specialists with extensive experience in this field, responsible persons of local ministries and departments involved in the selection of sites for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

SEED is a comprehensive peer review service designed to assist IAEA Member States at various stages of the life cycle of nuclear installations (NPPs, research reactors, advanced reactors, etc.) in accordance with IAEA standards and guidance on security. SEED modules cover the following stages of nuclear project development: site selection, site safety assessment, design of structures, systems and components, plant safety case, and site-specific external and internal hazard operation.
