Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 August 2021, in the format of a video conference chaired by the Republic of Tajikistan, the regular - the eighth Meeting of the Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held, in which the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ruslan Davletov took part.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Law and Justice of the Republic of India Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Beketayev, Minister of Justice of the People’s Republic of China Tang Yijun, Minister of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Chynbayeva, Minister of Law and Justice of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Farog Nasim, Minister of Justice Of the Russian Federation K. Chuichenko, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan M. Ashuriyon, as well as Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization E. Ashimov.
During the meeting, which was traditionally held in an open, friendly atmosphere and an atmosphere of mutual understanding, the participants, in accordance with the agenda, summed up the results of cooperation between the ministries of (law and) justice on the implementation of the agreements reached during the previous - seventh meeting.
The heads of the ministries of justice (and law) discussed the role of law during a pandemic, stressing that no state can fight the virus alone; to overcome its consequences, all need to join forces and improve legal systems, programs and strategies, taking into account the current realities.
They also exchanged views on the provision of free legal aid to citizens and the role of ministries of (law and) justice in combating corruption. The parties noted the threat posed by corruption to society, and, sharing the concern of the world community with this problem, considered it timely and important to exchange best practices between the SCO member states in the fight against corruption.
Following the meeting, the parties adopted a joint statement.
