Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva took part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Public Diplomacy Forum, which is taking place on 11 May in Tashkent.
In her report, the Chairperson of the Senate noted that the Forum is a unique opportunity to exchange views on the effective use of a wide range of public diplomacy tools.
The forum pursues the noble goal of forming coordinated views on strengthening interstate and interregional ties, interethnic and interfaith harmony, developing intercivilizational dialogue to achieve mutual understanding, strengthening trust and friendship between the peoples of the "SCO family," Narbayeva noted.
The modern world is changing under the influence of the contradictory trends of globalization, the emergence of new challenges and threats on the path of sustainable and inclusive development.
International terrorism, radicalism and extremism, xenophobia and racism, the aggravation of the crisis of confidence between the leading participants in the international system, as well as climate change and the challenges of post-pandemic development and many other problems require concerted global action and the joint adoption of effective preventive and response measures at the regional level.
The above and other common problems that all countries face today show how closely interconnected states are.
Against the backdrop of a difficult international situation, it acts as an effective tool for finding joint ways to solve common challenges through strengthening mutual trust and understanding between people.
The countries of the SCO family, which unite more than 3 billion people population of our planet, it is important to continue strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation, to intensify contacts between the institutions of civil society in our countries, to create the necessary conditions for expanding cooperation between women’s and youth organizations.
An invaluable role should also be played by the legislative bodies, which, through parliamentary diplomacy, contribute to the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation with foreign partners in order to strengthen friendship, peace and stability in our vast region.
The Organization needs to further expand cooperation in ensuring gender equality and developing the leadership potential of women to achieve the goals of sustainable development, combat poverty, and strengthen stability and security.
As the Chairman of the Senate noted, today’s Forum is a unique opportunity to exchange views on the effective use of a wide range of public diplomacy tools to achieve noble goals and objectives in the above areas.
