Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 February 2022, the first meeting of the Commission of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea was held. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva.
The meeting discussed the progress in the implementation of a number of practical action plans (“road maps”) approved by the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 28 December 2021 No. “On measures to further deepen the special strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea”.
It was noted that during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Korea on 16-18 December 2021, important bilateral mutually beneficial agreements were reached.
In particular, the digitalization of the socio-economic sector with the widespread use of information and communication technologies, the development of a “green energy” system and the implementation of a strong social policy have been identified as new priority areas for cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea for the long term.
The Republic of Korea is one of the main trade and economic partners of Uzbekistan. In recent years, trade turnover and the number of joint ventures have almost doubled.
South Korea’s investment in Uzbekistan exceeded US$7 billion. In 2021, US$320 million was disbursed, which is 20% more than in 2020. These funds are used to implement joint projects in the chemical, petrochemical, textile, construction and agricultural sectors.
Thanks to many years of fruitful cooperation with the Export-Import Bank (Exim) and the Fund for Economic Development and Cooperation of the Republic of Korea (EDCF), the amount of financing for investment projects in our country has been increased to US$1 billion.
In order to expand bilateral and multilateral inter-parliamentary relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, as well as to establish systemic parliamentary control over the implementation of the tasks identified in the "road maps" for the implementation of interstate bilateral agreements and treaties, the Commission of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis for cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea was created.
The meeting discussed the progress of the implementation of 3 practical action plans ("road maps"), approved by the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 28 December 2021, including 23 tasks, the implementation of which was scheduled in January of this year.
During the event, urgent tasks were identified for organizing the "Year of Mutual Exchanges", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the introduction of the "Electronic Parliament" mechanism into the activities of the Senate based on the experience of the South Korean Parliament.
At the end of the meeting, the relevant decision of the Commission was adopted, taking into account the comments and suggestions made.
