The fifty-fourth plenary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States takes place in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The fifty-fourth plenary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States was held in Samarkand.

Opening the meeting, Chairman of the IPA CIS Valentina Matviyenko noted that 4 years ago the Republic of Uzbekistan joined the Convention on the IPA CIS. She noted the active work of the legislators of Uzbekistan in the activities of the Assembly and thanked for organizing and holding the first field session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. During the meeting, it was noted that 40 documents were presented at the autumn session.

Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva in her speech stressed that “in the context of increasing tension and uncertainty, an unprecedented lack of dialogue and trust, growing uncertainty in international relations, it is parliamentary diplomacy that can play a significant role in strengthening mutual trust and deepening mutual understanding between states , as well as establishing multi-level communication on a broad agenda”.

Tanzila Narbayeva also expressed confidence that the multi-format platform of the CIS IPA will continue to contribute to the development of effective solutions on topical issues of mutually beneficial and constructive cooperation.

Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov noted that the IPA occupies an important place in the Commonwealth system.

Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sagiba Gafarova stated that the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly is one of the important and weighty institutions of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

She stressed that the work within the framework of the Assembly makes a significant contribution to the development of bilateral and multilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan stated that the meeting is taking place in the period of the most complicated geopolitical processes. In his opinion, conflicts do not have positive consequences for the world.

Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalia Kochanova noted that in the current realities, the importance of cooperation between the CIS member states is increasing many times.

“Further strengthening of the IPA CIS and other partner associations, joint and well-coordinated work of parliamentarians will contribute to the development of civilized approaches to solving pressing international and regional issues,” she said.

Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev added that over 30 years of work, the Assembly has shown efficiency and relevance. "IPA CIS is an internationally recognized institution of multilateral cooperation and development of inter-parliamentary relations."

Gulshat Mammedova, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, emphasized that in modern conditions the development of inter-parliamentary relations plays an increasing role in ensuring the harmonization of legislation and the exchange of experience in legislative practice. “Thanks to the far-sighted initiatives of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, interest in the activities of the Parliament of Turkmenistan is growing. Our parliamentarians are increasingly participating in various events, thereby contributing to the development of interstate relations.”

In addition, the President of the Central American Parliament, Guillermo Daniel Ortega Reyes, in a video message, noted that the plenary session will be a continuation of cooperation for the benefit of all, including PARLASEN. "We are open to friendly relations and cooperation with the parliaments of the Commonwealth countries." He recalled that PARLACEN applied for membership as an observer in the IPA CIS Council.

Dmitry Kobitsky, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, spoke about the plans for model lawmaking in the Commonwealth for 2023-2025.
